Rudy Giuliani, the former Mayor of New York, launched a fierce attack on a federal judge during a court session on Tuesday regarding a $148 million defamation ruling granted to two Georgia poll workers. He exclaimed, “I can’t pay my bills!”
Judge Lewis Liman stated that Giuliani has not been adhering to his earlier directive to surrender assets, as reported by The Guardian. Although Giuliani has handed over some watches and a convertible, he failed to provide the title or keys for the vehicle.
“A car without a title is useless,” Liman remarked to Joseph Cammarata, Giuliani’s new attorney, who replaced two other lawyers on Tuesday. “Your client is competent. He was the US attorney in the district. The idea that he can’t apply for a title certificate–”
Giuliani interrupted Liman: “I did apply for it! Am I supposed to just fabricate it?”
He went on: “The accusations you are making against me are incorrect. I have no vehicle, no credit card, no cash; everything I own is tied up. They placed stop orders on my business accounts, and I can’t pay my bills!”
Liman responded by advising Giuliani that his attorney should represent him.
Giuliani retorted: “Someone has to state the facts!”
This led Liman to issue a warning to Cammarata. “Next time, he won’t be allowed to speak. The court will need to take action,” he stated.
As reported by The New York Times, Cammarata sought a postponement of the trial scheduled for January 16, citing multiple reasons: to assess whether Giuliani could retain his Florida condominium and Yankees World Series rings, to prepare for another court date in Washington, D.C. over possible contempt of court due to Giuliani’s continued false statements regarding Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, the two election workers from 2020, and to enable Giuliani’s attendance at Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Liman denied the request, stating, “You can’t reset the clock by dismissing one lawyer and hiring a new one,” addressing Cammarata. “He has already been granted several extensions and has missed multiple deadlines.”
Following the court proceedings, Giuliani expressed his frustration that Liman is “as leftwing as possible.” Significantly, Liman was appointed to the court by Donald Trump.
