Authorities have apprehended two individuals in proximity to Kamala Harris’ residence in Los Angeles as curfews were enacted to prevent looting amid the current wildfires.
According to police reports, the men violated the curfew within the evacuation zone of the Palisades Fire, located close to the vice president’s residence.
The Los Angeles Police Department received reports of a burglary in the Brentwood area early Saturday at approximately 4:30 a.m., as stated by CBS News. Consequently, the two men were arrested for disobeying the curfew.
Sources informed NBC4 that there was no indication the men had trespassed onto Harris’s property and they likely were unaware of their location.
Security for the home is provided by the Secret Service, in addition to the LAPD and the California Highway Patrol. Following an evacuation order issued last week, no occupants were present at the residence at that time, according to a representative from the vice president’s office.
The curfew is enforced from dusk until dawn, with officials previously announcing that individuals breaching this rule would be taken into custody.
LA County Sheriff Robert Luna emphasized last week, “You cannot be in these affected areas. If you are, you are subject to arrest.”
People found in violation could encounter misdemeanor charges, which might lead to a fine of up to $1,000 or imprisonment.
“We are not taking this lightly,” Luna asserted. “We want to protect our residents who have already suffered.”
It remains uncertain whether anyone was present at Harris’ residence during the incident, and no statements regarding the situation have been issued.
