President-elect Donald Trump has once again suggested that his legal struggles are far from over, following his recent $15 million settlement with ABC and prominent anchor George Stephanopoulos.
On his Truth Social platform, Trump shared an image of E. Jean Carroll accompanied by bold text that questioned: “Should a woman face imprisonment for making false allegations of rape against a man? Retruth if you seek justice for Trump.”
These statements are part of a series of messages from the soon-to-be president, where he has intimated possible jail time or legal repercussions against various adversaries, including former Wyoming representative Liz Cheney, President Joe Biden, and even poll workers.
Trump has previously faced defeat in two defamation lawsuits filed by Carroll. Her attorney, Roberta Kaplan, informed a New York Times journalist in May that her team was contemplating further legal action against him following his derogatory comments on Truth Social. Kaplan was not immediately available for a statement.
“We have consistently indicated since the last jury ruling in January that we are considering all options. That remains our stance today—every option is still available,” Kaplan remarked at that time.
Democrats and rival Republicans are preparing for Trump’s upcoming term, including President Biden, who issued a pardon for his son Hunter to shield him from additional legal troubles.
Biden’s administration has even mulled over creating a list of pardons to safeguard Trump’s adversaries from potential backlash. However, prominent Democrat Adam Schiff cautioned against establishing such a precedent.
“The idea of granting sweeping pardons, particularly preemptive ones at the end of an administration, is a precedent we should avoid,” Schiff stated during an interview on ABC News’ This Week, as reported by The Hill.
