Donald Trump has initiated a call for an inquiry into pollster Ann Selzer following the release of a startling Iowa poll mere days before the presidential election, indicating that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris held a three-point lead in the state.
The notorious poll, published three days prior to the election, generated unwarranted optimism among many Democrats, presenting Harris with 47% of the support—while her opponent, Donald Trump, garnered 44% within Iowa.
In the end, Selzer’s predictions were off by a significant 16 points.
On Sunday, just weeks after the controversial poll became public, Selzer declared her retirement.
Shortly thereafter, Trump called for scrutiny of the veteran political analyst following her substantial miscalculation.
“A completely Fake poll that created substantial distrust and uncertainty during a crucial period. She was fully aware of her actions,” Trump remarked on his Truth Social platform, linking to Selzer’s announcement regarding her retirement.
“Thank you to the AMAZING PEOPLE OF IOWA for providing me with such a record-setting vote, despite possible ELECTION FRAUD orchestrated by Ann Selzer and the now debunked ‘newspaper’ she represents. An investigation is absolutely necessary!”
Selzer mentioned that her retirement decision was made over a year ago and was not influenced by the poll’s results.
“Would I have preferred to make this announcement following a final poll that mirrored Election Day outcomes? Certainly. It is ironic that it’s precisely the opposite,” Selzer expressed. “Polling is an art of estimation, and science frequently has the capacity to put the scientist in check. Thus, I find myself humbled, yet always eager to glean insights from unexpected results.”
