Approximately 200 of President-elect Donald Trump’s supporters from Staten Island paused their Black Friday shopping to show off their dance moves.
In various social media videos shared on X, participants of a “Trump dance” flash mob are seen cheerfully singing along to the Village People’s iconic “Y.M.C.A.” while imitating Trump’s famous closed-fist shimmy.
This song and dance routine became a familiar feature at Trump’s campaign rallies and have since “gained a life of their own” after his decisive victory, as Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella remarked in an interview with the New York Post. He further commented, “The dance indicates that you don’t always have to take life seriously.”
Retired firefighter Jimmy Aylward, 59, who was also present at the gathering, described it as “truly iconic.” He added, “I simply want to see him inaugurated.”
A promotional flyer for the “huuuge” event encouraged attendees to join in and “dance off your Thanksgiving turkey with the trend that’s captivating the nation.” The event took place at Midland Beach Splaza in the New York borough, where some of the best dancers received garbage can trophies—a nod to President Joe Biden labeling Trump’s base as “garbage”—while others enjoyed the festivities clad in MAGA apparel.
“I believe anything he does tends to go viral,” commented another supporter to the New York Post regarding the signature dance.
In the election, Trump secured nearly two-thirds of the votes in Staten Island, achieving his largest victory margin in the borough across his three presidential campaigns, as reported by Staten Island Live.
Joining in on the fun, Trump shared an animated clip of himself popping out of a turkey and dancing in front of President Biden during Thanksgiving.
Groovy, man!
