Katie Miller, who previously served as a press secretary for Mike Pence and later married the contentious figure Stephen Miller during Donald Trump’s initial presidential term, has been named the newest member of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.
The announcement was made by Trump in a post on Truth Social on Sunday evening, though he did not disclose the specific position that the 33-year-old will occupy within DOGE. “She has been a steadfast supporter of mine for many years, and will contribute her expertise to Government Efficiency,” he commented. “Katie is a highly regarded communications expert, acknowledged by all.”
This selection continues Trump’s pattern of assigning Floridians to positions within his administration, as Miller hails from Fort Lauderdale. She wed Stephen, who is poised to become Trump’s deputy chief of policy, in 2020—with Trump present for the ceremony.
Like her spouse, she is perceived as far-right—even by MAGA criteria—and has faced her share of controversies over the years, including an incident where she reportedly disposed of numerous copies of a student newspaper at the University of Florida following its publication of a piece about the university’s football coach supporting an opposing student government contender.
