On Friday evening, Justin Trudeau dined with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, following the president-elect’s threats of imposing substantial tariffs on Canada, as reported by CNN.

This visit marked the first by a G7 leader since Trump’s electoral victory, occurring after Trudeau shared his vision for collaboration with Trump during his upcoming presidency.

“Ultimately, it is through numerous constructive, genuine discussions with President Trump that I plan to engage, ensuring we progress in the best interest of all Canadians,” Trudeau stated during a press briefing in Prince Edward Island.

While Trudeau served as prime minister throughout Trump’s first tenure, this period was characterized by the transition from NAFTA to the USMCA. Trump has expressed intentions to dismantle this free trade agreement by imposing a 25 percent tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico.

“When he makes such statements, he intends to follow through,” Trudeau cautioned.

“Not only would he be negatively impacting Canadians who collaborate effectively with the United States, but he would also increase costs for American consumers and harm American industries and businesses,” he continued, aligning with the sentiments of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Trudeau is anticipated to spend the night in Florida, although not at Mar-a-Lago, which is Trump’s private estate and golf course, according to an official familiar with the arrangements, as reported by The New York Times.
