Tammy Bruce, who previously contributed to Fox News and was chosen by Donald Trump as a spokesperson for the State Department, has a track record of ridiculing Secretary of State nominee Senator Marco Rubio, who is expected to be her boss in the near future, on various social media platforms.
In social media posts from December 2015, brought to attention on Monday by Politico, Bruce referred to Rubio using a nickname popularized by Donald Trump during that GOP primary season: “Little Marco.”
“Making Ted Cruz look even more attractive & confirming Little Marco as the Establishment’s last resort,” Bruce commented on Dec. 26, in reaction to an article about then-congressman Trey Gowdy nearing an endorsement of Rubio.
That day alone, Bruce alluded to Rubio by that nickname at least seven additional times.
Earlier, Bruce had a similar response to a narrative regarding Rubio accusing Senator Ted Cruz, another candidate in the race, of being an “isolationist.”
“Aww,” Bruce expressed on X, “little Marco is already beginning to sound like his Establishment handlers.”
On February 6 of the subsequent year, Bruce openly criticized Rubio’s performance during that evening’s GOP primary debate.
“Marco trying to engage in the NoKo debate with Cruz was feeble. Like a child frantically waving from the back of the room seeking attention,” she remarked.
Days later, Bruce, who would become the public liaison for the secretary of state, stated, “I didn’t mute Trump but had to mute Marco.”
When questioned about her previous remarks, Bruce told Politico that it is “a privilege to be part of President Trump’s administration, and I am excited to collaborate with Senator Rubio, who has been one of the president’s most steadfast supporters of the America First agenda.”
Bruce marks the 17th individual associated with Fox News, past or present, whom Trump has appointed to his administration. This role does not necessitate confirmation from the Senate.
