Media commentators from the right were less than impressed with President Joe Biden’s farewell address on Thursday. One panelist from Fox seemed incredulous that AI didn’t pen the speech, while a Newsmax anchor amusingly suggested that Biden’s dentures might be loosening.
In his Oval Office appearance, Biden cautioned that a “tech-industrial complex” fanning the flames of disinformation and misusing artificial intelligence could gain even greater power in the future.
While responding to the speech on Fox, Dana Perino, a former White House Press Secretary, described the address as “hollow” and inferred that speechwriters may have employed AI to draft it instead.
“It seemed like those responsible for the speech had already departed, and they asked ChatGPT to create a speech for Joe Biden, in which he seems to have forgotten he served as president these past four years,” she stated on an episode of Jesse Watters Primetime.
Perino referenced a recent Gallup survey indicating that the public generally held a negative view of Biden’s presidency regarding 18 distinct issues, such as the economy, crime rates, and immigration policies.
Similarly, on the same panel, Fox News anchor Bret Baier objected to Biden’s assertion that “a hazardous concentration of power rests in the hands of a very small number of exceptionally wealthy individuals.”
Baier highlighted that in the most recent election, Democrats accumulated more funding than their Republican counterparts.
“Thus, there was a concentration of funds among the Democrats,” he noted. “It wasn’t that what they were promoting resonated with the American public.”
Journalist and political analyst Brit Hume observed that the speech appeared to be an effort to rehabilitate Biden’s standing as a capable president.
“He did the best he could given the circumstances, but it’s a challenging scenario because the public has evidently turned against his record,” he remarked. “It’s a tough pitch, especially at a time when I believe most of the public has largely ignored him.”
On another segment of the Jesse Waters show, Kayleigh McEnany, another previous White House Press Secretary, labeled the speech as “tone deaf.”
“It was remarkably tone-deaf. There was also a touch of irony; he is leaving the stage with his lowest approval rating to date at 37%,” she commented.
In contrast, over at CNN, political analyst Scott Jennings remarked that Biden will be remembered for “reviving Trump and Trumpism, making them stronger and more favored than ever.”
Jennings expressed disbelief that Biden would even consider seeking another term: “The length they pursued this absurdity remains one of the most remarkable aspects of this administration to me.”
On Newsmax, anchor Rob Finnerty mentioned that he “almost felt sympathy” for Biden, even musing that the president’s dentures might be loose, causing him to slur his words.
“But then, I reflected on everything he’s done to us and this nation over the past four years, and I snapped out of it,” he added.
Trump is scheduled to commence his grand inauguration next week.
