Leader of Project 2025, Kevin Roberts, has committed to supporting President-elect Donald Trump’s controversial defense nominee, Pete Hegseth, with a substantial contribution of one million dollars.
The president of the Heritage Foundation stated that the organization plans to utilize these funds to persuade Republican senators, some of whom are reportedly skeptical about Hegseth, that he is the suitable candidate for the Pentagon position.
Project 2025 is an extensive 900-page federal policy framework created by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank based in Washington D.C., led by the far-right lobbyist and alleged animal abuser Roberts.
This initiative aims to dismantle the perceived Deep State by bringing the entire federal bureaucracy under Trump’s direct oversight and replacing a significant number of government roles with political appointees.
Hegseth’s potential confirmation for the defense position is uncertain due to various allegations about his character, including accusations of sexual misconduct and claims of drinking during work hours at Fox News. He has refuted these accusations.
It seems that Project 2025 is now preparing to support Hegseth.
“They’ll be communicating with their constituents about how misaligned they are with the Trump agenda,” Roberts remarked to AP regarding GOP senators who have yet to endorse the former Fox & Friends Weekend personality.
Roberts contended that opposition to Hegseth was spearheaded by “the establishment” and proclaimed that Trump’s second term will herald “the commencement of America’s golden age.”
“I believe we are witnessing a reestablishment of this nation,” he asserted.
Trump had stated during his re-election campaign that he was not involved with Project 2025; however, he has since recruited several key figures associated with the right-wing agenda, according to The New York Times.
“President-elect Trump has abandoned any pretense and is forging ahead alongside the right-wing industry stakeholders who are influencing an agenda he disavowed throughout his campaign,” Tony Carrk, executive director of Accountable.US, a watchdog organization, commented to the Times.
Regardless of the media frenzy surrounding Hegseth, Trump continues to express his support for him. He posted on his Truth Social account on Friday morning: “Pete Hegseth is doing exceptionally well. His backing is robust and profound, far more than what the Fake News would lead you to think.”
He noted that Hegseth was an “excellent student” with a “military mindset.”
The president-elect concluded: “He will be a remarkable, energetic Secretary of Defense, a leader who embodies charisma and capability. Pete is a WINNER, and there is nothing that can alter that!!!”
