The New York Jets are bracing for yet another challenge after facing a tumultuous few years, amid speculation that owner Woody Johnson might take on an ambassadorial position in the forthcoming Trump Administration.
Having previously held the role of Ambassador to the United Kingdom during Trump’s initial term, Johnson’s potential new appointment is not yet official. Nevertheless, NFL.com reports that “key NFL officials believe it will happen, and the team has a strategy in place should it transpire.”
Details about this “strategy” remain unclear; however, anonymous sources indicate they expect Johnson would likely accept the position if Trump extends the offer, given his enjoyment of the role during his last tenure.
This revelation comes as an unwelcome shock to Jets supporters, who have faced a challenging few seasons recently.
In the previous year, the team faced heartbreak at the start of the season when star quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles tendon on the first drive of the inaugural game, sidelining him for the remainder of the year.
The Jets concluded the season with a disappointing 7-10 record, missing out on playoff opportunities and deflating what was anticipated to be a successful season for them.
A sluggish start to 2024 also led to the firing of coach Robert Saleh just last month after only five games. Johnson expressed hopes that the decision would energize the team, yet they continue to struggle and currently hold a record of 3-7.
