Errol Musk, father of Elon Musk, has offered some insight for the British public regarding the world’s wealthiest individual and his attempts to meddle in their political affairs via social media.
“Simply ignore him, that’s it,” Errol Musk expressed during a conversation with LBC radio on Monday. “I would advise not to be concerned. Just tell him to leave.”
Realizing that a contribution of $250 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign could position him as a White House adviser, Musk began making a loud presence overseas, frequently expressing his views on his social platform, X.
He started the year with a flurry of erratic posts—many of which contained inaccuracies or were misleading—targeting the overthrow of the Labour Party government.
Musk’s criticisms of government officials, his strong support for a jailed far-right figure, and his peculiar request for King Charles to disband Parliament have escalated to a point where even his friends in Britain wish he would stop commenting on a nation he doesn’t reside in.
However, Errol Musk finds no issue with his son’s actions.
“People aren’t obligated to heed what he says,” he noted during Monday’s interview. “He’s just an individual. Just because he has wealth or is a billionaire or whatever—there are countless others tweeting or voicing similar opinions.”
Of course, those other individuals don’t control the platform. Elon Musk boasts over 211 million followers, and studies have indicated that X’s algorithm favors posts made by him and accounts that align with his viewpoints.
Moreover, Musk doesn’t merely suggest ideas; his immense wealth allows him to contribute astonishing amounts to turn them into reality.
He is rumored to be contemplating a donation of up to $100 million to Britain’s conservative Reform Party. A single donation of that size would nearly equal the total political contributions across all parties in the U.K. for 2023, which reached an unprecedented 93 million pounds ($116.8 million), as reported by The Guardian.
Yet, Musk appears to spend significantly less time worrying about the financial consequences of a nine-figure donation than the average person spends fretting over their takeout expenses from the previous month.
Thus, disregarding Musk’s political opinions becomes quite challenging. After all, money speaks volumes.
