An attorney advocating for a defendant involved in the January 6 events proposed an unusual scheme this week: the confiscation of Liz Cheney’s assets in order to redistribute them as reparations to “J6ers.”
This unusual suggestion was made during a press briefing held by David Clements, who also claimed that “a law is needed to safeguard the J6ers as a protected group” to prevent any workplace discrimination against them in the United States.
Clements requested that Donald Trump grant a pardon to his client, Jacob Lang, along with others who either stormed or are alleged to have stormed the U.S. Capitol four years prior. Following that, he expressed a desire to see some of Trump’s political adversaries face arrest, with their finances redirected to support the MAGA supporters prosecuted due to the 2021 Capitol insurrection.
“We demand restitution,” Clements stated. “There are various methods to pursue restitution. Everyone involved in the unselect committee is, in fact, culpable… When you examine obstruction, true obstruction, and apply the established law, the Liz Cheneys of this world have breached that statute.”
Cheney, a former congressional member who backed Kamala Harris for the presidency last autumn, was one of two Republicans serving on the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol events. The other member, Adam Kinzinger, has also departed from public office.
Clements, who transitioned from being a professor to a full-time advocate for Trump and legal advisor, stated on Monday that the quest for restitution for protesters is “only the beginning” if Trump returns to the presidency.
In remarks aimed at those found guilty of offenses related to January 6, he suggested there should be civil asset seizures, with those assets used to restore justice for the individuals affected.
He urged Trump to issue a broad pardon to the J6ers within his initial nine minutes in office.
“Four years have been wasted,” he remarked. “Lives have been shattered, and justice requires that we rectify this. So on day one, on day one, on day one, President Trump. Within the first nine minutes, we want those gates opened. We want to proceed to the D.C. facility and be there ready to greet our brothers and sisters, welcoming them back to society as heroes.”
