Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania expressed on Wednesday that he is receptive to Donald Trump’s proposal regarding the acquisition of Greenland, stating to reporters that it is “strategically a wise move.”

“I think it’s quite reasonable, and in fact, I believe it’s strategically a wise move,” Fetterman commented, as reported by NBC News.

CNN correspondent Manu Raju noted that Fetterman conveyed to the media that he would endorse the acquisition provided Denmark is in agreement as well.

A few days prior, Fetterman and Trump had a discussion at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, where they explored not only the topic of Greenland but also other expansionist concepts, such as reclaiming the Panama Canal.

Following their meeting, Trump expressed positive sentiments about Fetterman.

“It was an absolutely captivating meeting. He’s an intriguing individual, and his wife is wonderful. They were both delightful, and I can’t be more impressed,” he shared with the Washington Examiner. “He’s a person of common sense. He doesn’t fall into the liberal or conservative categories. He’s simply a person of common sense, which is exceptional.”

Before the meeting—the first between a Democratic senator and Trump since the election—Fetterman had humorously remarked that Trump might crown him the “Pope of Greenland.”

House Republicans have already introduced legislation to facilitate any prospective discussions between Trump and Denmark, whose constitution safeguards Greenland’s designation as an autonomous region.

In the midst of all the discussions, Prime Minister Múte Egede of Greenland stated last weekend that he would be willing to meet with Trump, but made it clear, “Greenland is for the Greenlandic people. We do not desire to be Danish, nor do we want to be American. We aspire to be Greenlandic.”
