According to CNN data reporter Harry Enten, Americans are “pleased with what they’ve observed” so far from Donald Trump based on initial approval ratings.
Referring to a recent Reuters/Ipsos survey conducted among U.S. adults in the early days of Trump’s second term, Enten highlighted that the president is concluding his first week in office with one of his highest approval figures at 47 percent. This figure indicates a net favorability of +6.
Trump started his first administration with a -3 rating.
“That’s an increase of nine points,” Enten remarked. “To use one of Trump’s favorite phrases, this is big league!”
(In contrast, Joe Biden wrapped up his presidency this month with an approval rating that aligns with his lowest point, a mere 36 percent, as reported by CNN.)
The initial days of Trump’s administration have been highlighted by significant—and often divisive—staffing choices, legislative initiatives, and, certainly, various other MAGA-related events.
Notably, one of the most extreme actions has been Trump’s executive order aimed at terminating birthright citizenship for infants born on U.S. land to undocumented immigrants and other non-citizens. A federal judge has temporarily blocked this order on the grounds that it infringes upon the 14th Amendment. Furthermore, Trump has hinted at plans for mass deportation of undocumented immigrants, with operations set to kick off this week in cities nationwide.
Trump has faced backlash over his blanket pardon extended to nearly 1,500 individuals charged in relation to the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, including some who physically assaulted police officers.
Additionally, he appears to have revived his aspirations to acquire Greenland.
