According to former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, the close association between Elon Musk and President-elect Donald Trump is destined to end.
The Republican representative, who once backed Trump but has emerged as one of the few within the party to oppose him, speculates that the discord will arise from Trump’s tendency to assign blame.
In a discussion with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl on Sunday, he remarked: “It concludes when Trump decides that something has gone awry, requiring him to find someone to hold responsible, and Musk fits that role.”
Christie added that “no one can predict how long this will take.”
This year, the two billionaires have forged a strong bond following Musk’s unwavering support for Trump, which includes establishing a Super PAC and organizing political events in his favor.
“It can be difficult for people to grasp just how captivating this dynamic can be for some individuals,” Christie noted during his ABC interview.
Recently, Musk demonstrated his potential sway during Trump’s second term by obstructing a proposed bipartisan funding agreement, putting a government shutdown in jeopardy. A compromise was ultimately achieved only in the final hours before the deadline following two unsuccessful bills.
“Individuals who occupy central positions with Trump have a limited duration, and that duration is shaped by external factors, as Speaker Johnson is currently experiencing,” said the former governor.
Numerous Democrats have playfully teased the two, referring to Musk as the true president in their association.
“The political and legacy media puppets received their new directives yesterday and are now repeating the same narrative to create division between @realDonaldTrump and me,“ Musk stated on Friday before the proposed bill was passed. ”They will not succeed.”
