Following a brief two-day visit to Greenland, Charlie Kirk returned with a strong conviction that the locals are eager to shake off Danish oversight and align themselves with the American empire.
The 31-year-old leader of the MAGA youth movement joined his companion Donald Trump Jr. for a swift journey to Greenland to “immerse ourselves in the culture” in anticipation of Trump Sr.’s inauguration on January 20, as he shared with Glenn Beck on Wednesday.
Upon the arrival of Trump Force One, “We were welcomed by hundreds of people,” Kirk stated. “MAGA hats adorned the streets of [capital city] Nuuk. These are people who adore America and wish to become a part of it.”
Last month, Donald Trump expressed his desire to revive the effort to purchase Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark that is decidedly not on the market. An earlier attempt to acquire the strategically significant island, abundant in mineral resources, sparked a diplomatic uproar during Trump’s first term.
Now, the incoming president is suggesting he might consider military action to secure Greenland if necessary. However, after spending roughly 48 hours there as a tourist, Kirk—founder of the activist organization Turning Point USA and host of a show on the conservative Salem News Channel—concluded that the Greenlandic population may not actually seek full independence but rather wish to be governed by Trump.
“A young lad approached me and said, ‘Charlie, I follow you on TikTok. I want to show you something,’” Kirk recounted during an episode of his show on Wednesday, the same day he spoke with Beck. “He mentioned, ‘In my village, three hours away, when we venture into the countryside, we discover rubies as large as baseballs.’”
The young boy allegedly went on to tell him, “The Danes prohibit us from mining our rubies, our gold, our lithium, or our natural gas, and it’s time for a revolt against the Danes.”
This claimed encounter led Kirk to the realization that the youth in Greenland aspire to wealth, as all lithium-enthusiast youths do. From this, he seemingly concluded that they desire to attain wealth as Americans.
“I observed that the Danish authorities mistreat them and exploit them. They yearn to join America,” he conveyed to Beck.
The conservative commentators concurred that spending $1.5 trillion to acquire Greenland could be the wisest investment America could undertake in their lifetimes, although they did not discuss potential sources for the funds.
When reminded that the Danes had no intention of selling, Kirk responded, “To what extent do the Danes truly have a say? We’re essentially funding all their military defense through NATO. We are the ones who are keeping Putin at bay… It’s time we exert a bit of that influence.”
If that strategy fails, Trump’s contingency plan suggests not ruling out military intervention. However, according to Kirk, at the very least, the residents of Greenland would be willing participants in such a scenario.
