During a gathering concerning social media misinformation at the G20 summit on Saturday, Brazilian First Lady Janja Lula da Silva made headlines with her remarks directed at billionaire Elon Musk, the owner of the platform X.
As the spouse of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Lula da Silva elaborated extensively on how regulations could be instrumental in curbing the dissemination of false information online—an approach that stands in stark contrast to Musk’s management of X, previously known as Twitter.
As reported by Reuters, a ship’s horn interrupted her speech, prompting her to quip, “I think it’s Elon Musk.”
She continued, expressing her lack of fear towards him, and added, “F— you, Elon Musk.”
Musk replied to the video clip on his platform with a simple “lol.”
Additionally, he shared laughing emojis and commented, “They will lose the next election.”
In October, Brazil reversed a ban on X after the platform paid a hefty fine of $5 million. The initial blockade was enacted after the platform refused to take down several profiles that the government claimed were disseminating misinformation during Brazil’s 2022 presidential election.
