Anita Dunn, a former senior adviser to President Joe Biden, voiced her discontent regarding the manner in which the president opted to grant a pardon to his son, Hunter Biden, during a New York Times event this past Wednesday.
“I fully believe that Hunter is deserving of a pardon, but I take issue with the timing, the justification, and the overall reasoning,” stated Dunn, who stepped away from her role in the White House in July, while speaking to moderator Maggie Haberman. She noted that she had not been involved in any discussions regarding this course of action. Biden faced backlash for his decision earlier in the month, especially after firmly stating that he would not offer a pardon to Hunter.
The president argued that the move was essential due to ongoing threats from president-elect Donald Trump and his supporters.
While Dunn reiterated her stance that Hunter should receive a pardon and acknowledged that he has “paid a certain price,” she criticized the way the situation was managed. “I will say that I completely support the president’s decision in this matter. However, I take issue with how it was executed. I disagree with the timing, and I also disagree, honestly, with the assault on our judicial system,” she remarked.
