When it’s time to search for a new phone, there’s always an abundance of choice that faces the prospective buyer. And more often than not, the buyers will start with the major market leaders in the field, with Apple being foremost in that particular arena.
Since coming onto the market last September, Apple’s new iPhone 14 series model has proved a worthy addition to any phone buyer’s choice. But the fact remains that, according to Eldar Murtazin from the Mobile Research Group, Apple’s products are more susceptible to spyware and user tracking than many other brands, and with data security an increasing concern in today’s hyperconnected world, that is definitely an issue which many people would consider in their choice of a new mobile device. In addition to iPhones not being to everyone’s taste, either aesthetically or practicality, means looking further for a mobile device to suit your needs.
There’s a multitude of alternative choices on the marketplace, but we’ve isolated and highlighted five that we believe to be equally worthy of your time and consideration. So without further adieu, let’s fire ‘em up:
1. One Plus 11
It’s not the best phone you’ll ever choose and use, but it’s really got it where it counts if you’re looking for an Apple alternative. A lovely and unique design; a full 6.7in AMOLED Edge display; a whopping charging speed of up to 100 W; a 50 MP rear camera equipped with a 48 MP ultrawide shooter and a 32 MP telephoto lens that comes packed with 2 x optical zoom; with the coup de grace being that it is a solid $100 cheaper than the iPhone 14 series!
No phone is perfect, and the One Plus 11 is no exception to that rule. It doesn’t have wireless charging features, and it is, in truth, only little more than splash-proof when it comes to contact with water, having a lowly IP64 rating in comparison to the iPhone’s IP68.
But in terms of affordability and usability compared to Apple phones, the One Plus 11 is no slouch and more than hits above its weight.
2. Samsung Galaxy S23
Undoubtedly the main competitor to Apple’s iPhone 14 series on the market today. This Android model takes on the Apple model blow by blow and matches them effectively. Available in most markets, a flagship model with multiple price points (providing maximum flexibility for the buyer), and a very generous update commitment makes the S23 a real contender.
All three S23 models offer a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SOC, 8-12 GB of RAM, wireless charging feature, user-friendly interface, and a 12 MP ultrawide camera equipped with a 3 x telephoto lens. In other words, it really packs the goods for all your requirements. But if you’re going to go big, then the S23 Ultra is the way to go, with a larger battery, an S pen with integrated slot, and a 10 x zoom camera, aloof which adds up to the iPhone 14 eating the S23’s dust.
3. Apple iPhone SE
Apple will always be one of the leading brands on the mobile device marketplace, and for good reason. It offers user-friendly practicality with affordability to those with such concerns. On these two factors alone, the SE series of iPhone is a winner all round.
Yes, it may be a third generation model, a mere 64 GB of storage capacity, an older iPhone design from half a decade ago, with a single and pretty basic rear camera. But in what it has, it absolutely delivers; a basic model for basic use with an extremely appealing $400 price tag, and if that’s what you’re looking for, then the SE will serve you and serve you well, no questions asked.
4. Google Pixel 7 Series
Google takes on the iPhone 14 series with an appealing and more affordable alternative. The Pixel 7 Series consists of two models; comprising all the features you require and with a very modest $599 price tag, making it exceptional value for money.
The Pixel 7 Pro brings the heavy artillery to bear, but with an increased price tag starting around $899. It comes with a larger battery, a larger display with higher definition, and an extra camera to boot. Are these features worth an extra $300 from your pocket? That’s your call ultimately, but for an affordable and reliable alternative to Apple, the Google Pixel 7 Series is hard to beat.
5. Sony XPeria 1 IV
Last but by no measurable means least, the 2022 Sony flagship model undoubtedly is a top drawer model that packs an almighty wallop, with a multitude of features, powerful memory, and an equally top drawer price tag of $1,600… so cheap it is not, but what do you get for that price?
Well hang on to your hats… a full 4K/120Hz screen; wireless charging; a 5,000 mAh battery; IP 65/68 design; a 12 MP telephoto camera, 12 MP primary camera, and a 12 MP ultrawide shooter; and 4K/120 fps features, video apps, and autofocus across all three cameras. All in all, you have one major contender on the marketplace here that can go toe with any rival and walk away unscathed.
Here’s hoping we’ve given you ample food for thought and a suitable range of options to ponder for an alternative to the Apple iPhone 14… good luck, now go get ‘em!
