According to recent data, Threads, the social media app designed to rival Twitter, has garnered over 100 million users in less than five days. This achievement surpasses the record set by Open AI’s ChatGPT app.
Threads was launched by Meta, the owner of Instagram, and became available on Apple and Android app stores across 100 countries last Wednesday. However, due to the European Union’s data privacy legislation, the app is not currently accessible in Europe.
Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that the app reached 10 million users within the first seven hours of its launch, and the number exceeded 30 million by Thursday morning. Within 24 hours, the user count had more than doubled.
Although Threads has amassed an impressive user base of 100 million, it still falls short of Twitter’s estimated 350 million regular users.
Twitter has faced some challenges as certain users have grown disenchanted since billionaire Elon Musk took over. Under Musk’s ownership, the company has undergone significant job cuts, and several changes have been implemented to generate revenue.
While other competitors like Mastodon and Bluesky have emerged, they have struggled to establish a substantial user base. Threads, on the other hand, has capitalized on its association with Instagram, which boasts over one billion accounts.
