WhatsApp is the favorite app to talk with their friends, family, and the rest of the people they need to interact with on a daily basis. The data shows it, as approximately 80% of the population has an account registered on this service, and for now, there doesn’t seem to be any other alternative that could jeopardize the platform owned by Meta’s reign.
To get to this point, WhatsApp has worked hard to offer the best possible product, that is, a service that meets all users’ expectations and provides them with the tools they need for their communications.
But undoubtedly, if WhatsApp is in the position it is in, it is because they are constantly developing new features to include and offer tools to users that they themselves didn’t know they needed, although app updates are often also related to the security and protection of users.
Approximately 100 billion messages are sent on WhatsApp every day, the vast majority are conversations between couples, friends, or family, although there are all kinds, including those messages that incite hatred, misinformation, or are spam. As this is a serious problem, the company wants to address it, and according to what WABetaInfo has discovered, they are preparing a new measure against spam.
Specifically, it is a new function called Account Restriction, a temporary lock system that will prevent affected users from starting any new conversations on their WhatsApp account.
Unlike the measures that existed until now, restricted users will still be able to receive messages and even respond within the chats they already have open and groups they are already part of. The company believes that by temporarily blocking an account, users are offered the opportunity to correct their behavior without losing complete access to their data.
WhatsApp has a usage policy that prohibits spam messages, mass communications, and automated messages. The company claims it cannot read your messages, due to end-to-end encryption, so to detect these bad practices in the app, they use an algorithm that detects these abusive behaviors from an account through usage patterns on the platform.
