The WhatsApp messaging app has become our favorite method of communication thanks to its versatility and speed, which allows us to be in constant contact with our families, friends, and other people we need to interact with.
Backups are used to store all of our conversations so that we can refer back to them whenever we want. Therefore, restoring a WhatsApp backup is essential if you have changed phones or need to recover your messages and files after a factory reset.
This process is simple and quick, and in today’s article, we will show you how to do it whether you have an Android smartphone or an iPhone.
How to restore a backup on Android:
- Verify the existence of a backup: Open WhatsApp on your new Android device. If it’s the first time you’re installing the app, you will need to verify your phone number. Once inside, WhatsApp will automatically search for an existing backup on Google Drive. Make sure the device is connected to the same Google account you used to create the backup.
- Restore the backup: If WhatsApp detects a backup, it will give you the option to restore it. Click on Restore and wait for the process to complete. This may take a few minutes, depending on the size of the backup and your internet speed.
- Set up the account: Once the backup has been restored, WhatsApp will ask you to set up your account, including your username and profile picture. Once this step is completed, you will be able to access all your previous messages and files.
How to restore a backup on iOS:
- Verify the existence of a backup: If you are setting up WhatsApp on a new iOS device, make sure you have a backup in iCloud. To do this, go to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup on your old iOS device. If you don’t have a backup, you can manually create one by tapping Back Up Now.
- Restore the backup: On your new iOS device, download and install WhatsApp from the App Store. During the setup process, you will be asked to verify your phone number. Once this verification is complete, WhatsApp will automatically search for a backup in iCloud and give you the option to restore it. Tap Restore Chat and wait for the process to complete.
- Set up the account: Once the backup has been restored, WhatsApp will ask you to set up your account. This includes your username and profile picture. After completing this setup, you will be able to access all your previous messages and files.
Things to keep in mind:
- Once you have completed the setup and start using the application, you will not be able to restore an earlier backup.
- – Make sure you have enough storage space available on your device before attempting to restore a backup.
- Make sure you are using the same Google account (for Android devices) or the same iCloud account (for iOS devices) that you used to create the original backup.
