Without applications, our smartphones would not be the same, since these platforms and services are what give abilities to our device so that it can do all the things it can do. However, these have also become the gateway for many cyberattacks, and Microsoft has just warned that there are more than 4,000 Android users who are at risk of suffering one due to a series of infected apps.
The company behind Windows conducted an investigation where they discovered a vulnerability present in a wide range of Android mobile apps, and although they discovered this danger in February, at that time they only notified the developers of these platforms to fix it.
Now, Microsoft has decided to make this information public, although the truth is that for security reasons, they have not released a list of affected apps, but, for example, they have pointed out Xiaomi’s file explorer.
For your peace of mind, in this time developers have fixed these errors to make the affected apps secure again. Apparently, in general the error corresponded to a low security when handling the file name provided by the application server.
This makes it easier for cybercriminals to impersonate a legitimate app with a malicious one, to solve this Microsoft proposes to developers not to trust user input. As we were saying, these vulnerabilities have already been corrected, so in general they should not be a problem.
That said, we say this in case you have the latest updates of your apps installed, since developers have extended the corrections in the versions that have been released in recent months, so if you don’t remember having updated recently you should do so as soon as possible to avoid being exposed to any type of attack.
