Attempted identity theft leads to gray-bar hotel stay.
A Michigan woman has pleaded guilty and received prison time for falsely using another woman’s identity in order to secure employment as a registered nurse.
Leticia Gallarzo, 49, a resident of Wayland, claimed to be a graduate of both Davenport and George Washington universities and that she was a fully qualified RN, leading to her successful application for said job. The trouble is, Gallarzo had cloned another woman’s identity in order to secure the position.
In the course of her job, she falsified MediCare medical records and was only finally apprehended when her fingerprints revealed her to have similar convictions in Texas back in 2016-16.
Gallarzo was charged with and pleaded guilty on two counts of felony – falsifying a medical record (punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment) and aggravated identity theft (carrying a mandatory 2 year sentence).
Unluckily for Ms Gallarzo, her crimes came under federal jurisdiction and the feds were only too happy to prosecute. She is now looking at a potential 7-year sentence in federal penitentiary although sentencing has not been made yet.
