Lamborghini has surprised at the Beijing Auto Show in China with the unveiling of the PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid) variant of its SUV Urus, a version that increases its power to 800 hp and reduces its emissions by 80% to achieve the zero label.
The Lamborghini Urus SE or Hybrid Urus was a matter of time, after the entry into the market of rival models such as the Ferrari Purosangre, it was necessary for the Bologna brand to counterattack, and it has not disappointed anyone with a Plug-in Hybrid SUV that delivers 800 hp combining comfort and sportiness.
This new version of the Urus not only comes with an engine update, but also brings a facelift that is evident in the design that follows Lamborghini’s new philosophy, as well as its new aerodynamics, in addition to a more technological interface in the interior. Among the elements that have changed are the redesigned bumper and grille, along with the new floating hood with no cut line (providing a greater sense of continuity) and that, albeit with differences, is reminiscent of the concepts applied in the Revuelto. In addition, the new optical groups with matrix LED technology give the Urus a completely new luminous signature inspired by the Lamborghini bull’s tail.
At the rear, a wider stance is emphasized with a new diffuser accompanied by a rear grille inspired by super sports models of the brand like the Gallardo, and a redesigned tailgate for greater continuity of the car’s lines, as well as lower-mounted license plates to not interfere with these lines and a spoiler or wing that achieves a 35% increase in rear aerodynamic load at high speeds compared to the Urus S.
The redesigned 4-liter V8 engine has been redesigned to work in perfect harmony with the electric propulsion system. The result? An explosive combination of a combustion engine that provides 620 hp (456 kW) and 800 Nm of torque that, together with the electric motor that delivers another 192 hp (141 kW) and 483 Nm of torque, achieves a total combined power of 800 hp at 6,000 rpm and 950 Nm of maximum torque, with an eight-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the electric motor can act both as a combustion engine booster and as a traction element, turning the Urus into a 100% electric 4×4 that, through the lithium-ion battery equipped under the trunk floor (with a capacity of 25.7 kWh), achieves a range of 60 km in electric mode, operating up to 130 km/h or until the required torque exceeds the available electric torque, where it automatically relies on the thermal engine.
These features allow the Urus to have a weight / power ratio of 3.13 kg/hp compared to the 3.3 kg/hp of the most radical version to date, the Urus S, and achieve 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 11.4 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 312 km/h.
The suspension calibration system equips shock absorbers that allow varying the ground clearance from 15 mm in Corsa mode (more sporty), to 75 mm when the lift system is activated (mode more focused on comfort).
In the interior, we find a renewed cabin that Lamborghini has designated as ‘Feel like a pilot’ with an instrument panel for the driver and a 12.3-inch center dashboard screen, both with a new more intuitive interface. Additional elements such as air outlets, ‘Y’ shaped embellishers matching the taillights, and trimmings give the Urus a more refined presence.
In the center of the console, the ‘tamburo’ selector allows the driver to choose between six available driving modes (Strada, Sport and Corsa for road and track, along with Neve, Sabbia and Terra for surfaces other than asphalt) along with four electric modes (EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance and Recharge) for a total of eleven driving options.
As for customization, the Urus comes with 23-inch alloy wheels as standard and tires according to the car’s performance, fitting the Pirelli P Zero. In external colors, there is a color range of over 100 available colors with Arancio Egon (present in the photos in this article), or Bianco Sapphirus as novelties. Inside, the user can choose from 47 color combinations and four types of stitching.
