China has just inaugurated the world’s first hospital powered entirely by Artificial Intelligence called Agent Hospital and consists of a virtual clinic that uses AI-generated doctors and nurses to treat patients in a simulated environment.
The rise of AI has gradually brought that futuristic world that we thought was still many years away, into reality. And undoubtedly the idea of a hospital where doctors and nurses are not people, is one of these avant-garde ideas that no one thought would arrive in 2024.
But China has accelerated development in the field of AI, driven by researchers at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, the Agent Hospital has been created and inaugurated, as reported by the British media Express.
This will be a virtual hospital where patients can “attend” through a simulated environment and will be treated by an AI capable of simulating and predicting medical scenarios, such as outbreaks that could turn into a pandemic, as well as diagnosing diseases and developing treatment plans with an incredible 93.06% accuracy, according to questions from the US medical licensing exam.
Despite the staff of this hospital being only 14 doctors and 4 nurses, all powered by AI, researchers claim that the hospital can see about 3,000 patients a day and up to 10,000 people in just a few days. To put it into perspective, a normal hospital would take up to two years to see so many patients.
Although we may be quite skeptical of this idea right now, it is clear that at no time will it replace a real hospital, with doctors and nurses. However, this innovation is beneficial and efficient in diagnosing and treating diseases, because it detects them earlier by requiring less time with each patient.
But it’s not just that, as an educational resource it is perfect for medical students, as they can propose treatments without risk to these virtual patients. Apparently, this hospital is so advanced that its creators claim that it will be fully operational by the second half of the year.
