There is no doubt that the future lies in all smart devices integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) to boost their capabilities and skills, but for this, technology companies must have their own system or reach agreements with others to use theirs.
There is also no doubt that Apple’s AI strategy has not lived up to what the apple company has us used to, and it is that while Google or Mictrosoft have positioned themselves as leading companies in this field, Apple has nothing and is now trying to catch up.
While they have already begun to work on it, and they are working to develop their own AI systems, Bloomberg points out that Apple’s strategy consists of creating their own Large Language Model (LLM) for the device and for the cloud, but they do not intend to develop their own chatbot.
However, the company is aware that both users and shareholders want an Apple chatbot, for that reason they have gone after one, and if the iPhone is the market-leading smartphone, they have gone after ChatGPT, the market-leading chatbot.
Therefore, OpenAI and Apple are finalizing the agreement to introduce and integrate ChatGPT natively into iOS 18, the next version of the iPhone operating system that will be presented in June. Although the conversations are well advanced, there is still no formalized and signed agreement, so it is not definitive, and in fact, as we told you several weeks ago, Apple has also been in contact with Google to have them license their AI.
We still don’t know exactly what AI on the iPhone is going to be, and perhaps the company is not entirely sure how they are going to integrate it, however, these “leaks” are part of Apple’s strategy to reassure investors and avoid a stock market crash as they are virtually the only one of all the ‘Big Tech’ without its own AI or agreements already signed with other companies for the transfer of theirs.
