One of the dates marked in red on the technological calendar of the year (especially for Apple fans) has arrived. This Monday, June 10, Apple inaugurates the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, in which it promises to show advances that could redefine the use of its devices, starting with the long-awaited first major integration of artificial intelligence.
That’s why updates from Siri to new functionalities in iOS and macOS are expected, raising expectations. What surprises does the Cupertino company have in store for us? Here we tell you everything you need to know so you don’t miss a detail of the event.
Hardware launches prior to the event
To understand what they can present, it is worth remembering what they have presented this year in terms of hardware. In April, they launched the new 13 and 15-inch MacBook Air with the M3 chip, and in May, the new 11 and 13-inch iPad Pro with the M4 processor.
Although the main focus of the conference will be on software, these launches point the way to better understand the integrations and improvements we will see in the company’s operating systems.
News in iOS 18 and iPadOS: Apple will finally present its AI
Mark Gurman, the Apple specialist at Bloomberg, has pointed out that iOS 18 will bring a series of features focused on artificial intelligence. Among the improvements are:
- Siri update: Apple’s assistant will receive significant improvements that will allow editing photos, deleting emails, and performing other everyday tasks more efficiently. Also, an improved voice and advanced capabilities for the Apple Watch are expected.
- New features in Safari: Apple’s browser will be able to perform smarter searches, generate summaries, and transcribe voice notes.
- Custom emojis: Generative AI will allow users to create their emojis in the Messages app.
- Greater design flexibility: Users will be able to place icons and widgets anywhere on their home screen.
- New features in the mail app: Siri will help make emails more professional and suggest automatic responses.
- Smart playlists in Apple Music: Based on the user’s mood and other preferences.
What iPadOS 18 will bring
On the other hand, iPadOS 18 will share many of the innovations of iOS 18, especially regarding AI integration. These improvements are expected to not only make the use of Apple tablets more intuitive but also enhance their use in professional and educational environments.
macOS 15: Improvements and new functionalities
Although the name of the next macOS, Apple’s computer operating system, remains a mystery, some of the expected improvements include:
- New calculator app: Similar to the iOS version, with a history tape and support for Math Notes.
- Changes in the user interface: A new Siri icon, a redesigned System Preferences app, and a unified menu for page controls in Safari.
- AI integrations: Like in iOS and iPadOS, new artificial intelligence-based features are expected to enhance the user experience.
WatchOS 11, tvOS 18, HomePod Software 18, and visionOS 2
Updates in watchOS 11 may include a more advanced version of Siri, ideal for performing tasks on the go, and improvements in the Fitness app, making the Apple Watch even more essential for active users.
On the other hand, while no major changes are expected in these operating systems, we may see some new AI-based features, enhancing the entertainment experience and smart home control.
It is also expected that novelties in visionOS are included, presented last year and still a developing field. Apple is expected to introduce new applications and software solutions that improve the functionality of Apple Vision Pro, consolidating its position in the emerging market of augmented reality.
