The main reason why Apple is the company it is today and enjoys the status it has, is thanks to the success of the iPhone. Without a doubt, it is the market’s reference smartphone, from which the competition learns and draws inspiration, while at the same time being the reason why the company continues to be one of the industry’s giants despite its limited range of products and services.
And, despite the efforts of other manufacturers, who manage to create devices of a very high level and performance, which are also cheaper than the iPhone, as a general rule everyone would choose a model from the apple company.
But Apple knows that they cannot relax, and that the competition is becoming increasingly tough, which is why they want the iPhone to make a leap in quality and performance to ensure the crown. Everything points to Artificial Intelligence being the differentiating technology, and for that reason the company, which is internally lagging in terms of its own AI, wants to take the best of the best.
Therefore, as Bloomberg has discovered, Apple has resumed discussions with the most famous AI company, OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT with the aim of including their technology in their smartphones.
It was actually earlier this year that both companies began discussions to reach an agreement with the aim of integrating this AI into the services and functions of the upcoming iOS 18, the operating system they are preparing to launch soon.
Journalist Mark Gurman has pointed out in this preview that the next iPhone operating system will include several features based on the Large Language Model (LLM) from Apple. On the one hand, we have already seen that Apple wanted to introduce Google’s Gemini AI into its system, and now after pausing conversations with OpenAI for a few months, they have resumed them in search of final agreements.
After years of “ignoring” the growth of AI, Apple has had this technology blow up in their face. This is because all the big companies in the sector have their own projects and investments in this technology to not fall behind, while Apple has suddenly become anxious and wants to regain ground.
That is why in recent years Apple has not stopped signing new agreements and collaborations with smaller companies dedicated to AI such as Anthropic AI, among many other examples.
