Emergency contacts are the people you should call first in case something happens to you, and since the initiative carried out by the Red Cross in 2009, in our country we have always stored these people in our phones as “AA…” so that they always appeared at the beginning of the contact list, making it easier for the other person to find those who need to be notified.
However, times have changed in favor of the cybersecurity of our devices to unlock a phone, you need to know a PIN, password, or access through biometric data, what is clear is that nowadays anyone can’t just come and unlock your phone.
If this is essential to prevent theft, it also has disadvantages, such as in the event that something happens to us, they would not be able to access our contact list, search for emergency contacts, and call them because the phone will be locked.
As this was a setback, manufacturers decided to come up with a solution, and although saving certain numbers as AA was a simple way to do it, there is a new tool for this, but you must configure it beforehand.
How to activate emergency contacts on Android
If your smartphone runs on the Android operating system (Samsung, Xiaomi, Redmi, Realme…), the first thing you have to do is go to the Settings of your phone. Here you will have to look for the Security and emergency option (or a similar name) and once inside, scroll down to find the Emergency Contacts section.
Within this option, we can add all the contacts we want from our Agenda, and in the hypothetical case that something happens to us, when another person goes to pick up the phone and it is locked, they will find a button that says Emergency SOS. Here, along with 112 and similar, the contacts that we have marked as emergency contacts will appear.
How to activate emergency contacts on iPhone
If you have an iPhone, this process is even simpler, because in this case, you just have to go to the Contacts app and search for the numbers of those people you want to add. You will have to access their personal file (tap on them) and scroll down to find the option to add them as emergency contacts.
In the event that something happens and a third person has your phone and wants to call someone, they will have to access the emergency menu, which is accessed by pressing and holding the power button and volume button for several seconds until the option to turn off the phone, access your medical information or make an emergency call appears.
