Opportunity awaits for innovative entrepreneurs.
There are basically two kinds of entrepreneurs; one is the entrepreneur with a clear idea and vision from the outset, the other is someone who wants to be an entrepreneur but hasn’t figured out what to do in order to achieve it yet.
Some of the most successful entrepreneurs have actually come up with a brilliant idea almost by accident; as a result of solving an existing problem, they inadvertently stumbled upon an innovative idea that carried them through to incredible, life-changing success.
Such a person is the co-founder of Airbnb, Brian Chesky, who was struggling to make ends meet and pay his rent in 2007 when, in a brainstorming session with a friend, decided to purchase air mattresses and lease out an extra room in his apartment to paying customers. From such a eureka moment of an idea, and humble beginnings, Chesky co-founded Airbnb soon after and is now a billionaire with his company worth an astounding $77 billion.
Chesky wasn’t looking to become a titan of entrepreneurship but by solving a personal and financial problem, he hit on a winning formula that changed the world of accommodation and made him rich beyond his wildest dreams.
Those ideas born in such circumstances are brilliant in their simplicity because they weren’t planned, they were conceived in frustration, and born in a moment of pure cognitive imagination. Additionally, they didn’t create something new but rather addressed an issue to be resolved, issues common enough to sustain and grow a business that solved said issue.
Chesky himself put it like this in an interview, “If we tried to think of a good idea, we wouldn’t have been able to think of a good idea at all. You just have to have a solution for a problem in your own life.”
So if you’re thinking of starting up your own business, look at problems needing solving and ask yourself if there’s a gap in the market that could be filled by your company. Get together with friends and associates and brainstorm ideas… who knows, perhaps one day, you could be held up as a world-changing entrepreneur. The market is open, the world is your oyster… be bold, be brave, be innovative… good luck!
