On Wednesday, Donald Trump expressed his pleasure over the resignation of FBI Director Christopher Wray, shortly after Wray announced his departure prior to Trump’s inauguration.
However, this occasion prompted some contemplation for the president-elect. In a post on Truth Social, Trump referred to it as a “fantastic day” for the nation, adding about Wray: “I just don’t understand what transpired with him.” Trump initially appointed Wray to the position in 2017 for a decade-long tenure, but their relationship deteriorated as Trump found himself under multiple federal investigations following his exit from office.
In his post, Trump mentioned these investigations while celebrating his contentious choice to succeed Wray, Kash Patel. “As everyone knows, I hold significant admiration for the rank-and-file members of the FBI, and they reciprocate that respect. They are eager for these changes just as much as I am, but more critically, the American People are insisting on a robust yet equitable System of Justice. We wish to restore our FBI, and now that will take place. I eagerly anticipate Kash Patel’s confirmation, enabling the journey to Make the FBI Great Again to commence.”
