Robert F. Kennedy Jr. reportedly seeks to have his daughter-in-law and former campaign lead, Amaryllis Fox Kennedy, appointed as the second-in-command at the CIA.
Axios has disclosed that the nominee for Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services has been engaging in behind-the-scenes efforts to advocate for Amaryllis’ nomination as the deputy director of the intelligence organization.
This initiative aligns with President-elect Donald Trump’s intentions to revamp the nation’s intelligence agencies. He has selected former Texas congressman John Ratcliffe as the CIA director, a position that requires Senate confirmation. Conversely, the deputy director position does not need such approval.
Amaryllis, a former CIA agent, dedicated a decade to her work in the agency. She detailed her journey in the 2019 memoir, Life Undercover: Coming of Age in the CIA. The publication sparked controversy due to claims that she failed to secure the necessary clearance from the CIA’s Publication Review Board prior to its release.
Additionally, ex-CIA personnel have raised concerns about the accuracy and integrity of Amaryllis’ narrative, as reported by the Daily Mail.
In 2018, Amaryllis became part of the Kennedy family when she married Bobby Kennedy III during a barefoot beach wedding in Cape Cod.
Recently, Amaryllis took on the role of campaign manager for RFK Jr. during his unsuccessful 2024 presidential run.
“A significant number of Mr. Kennedy’s most passionate supporters are convinced he is the sole candidate capable of defeating Donald Trump in this election, and they are vehemently opposed to another four years of the turmoil we all faced,” Amaryllis remarked to NPR in June, amid reports of challenges facing RFK Jr.’s campaign.
