Earlier this year, as Hurricane Debby made its way through Florida, it unleashed not only heavy downpour and chaos; it also delivered devastation directly to the doorsteps of Kristy and Joe Cestero, the visionaries behind Flood Pros USA. This couple, who have dedicated countless years to mending homes and lives affected by floods, fires, and other calamities, found themselves facing a situation that was all too familiar yet acutely personal.
“This time, it wasn’t just another neighborhood; it was our own,” Kristy reveals. “Homes in our community were devastated. These are the families we interact with regularly, the ones we’ve shared many celebrations with. The reality hit too close to home for us to ignore. We knew we had to take action.”
The hurricane was not a one-time incident. Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton struck the same areas repeatedly, leaving behind an unusual path of destruction. The situation was aggravated as they witnessed neighbors—individuals residing in ‘million-dollar’ homes—facing hardships just like everyone else. “We assumed our neighbors had everything under control. But we encountered retirees unable to manage their insurance deductibles or repairs,” Joe shares. “These are folks living paycheck to paycheck, in homes they’ve cherished for years, without any cushion. How could we just walk away?” Kristy adds, “The storm didn’t discriminate based on savings or status. It became our responsibility to intervene.”
Amidst their own challenges—welcoming their much-anticipated twins, Jenni and Wolf, just weeks before the Milton storm struck—the Cestero couple, along with their Flood Pros team, embraced the call of duty. Kristy and Joe navigated weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), balancing the demands of new parenthood while managing their business. “It was sheer chaos,” Kristy confesses. “Yet our team remained steadfast. While we were at the hospital, they were out there, reconstructing homes and spreading hope. They supported us through one of the toughest periods of our lives.” This spirit of empathy is what defines Flood Pros USA.
As they embrace their new roles as parents, Kristy and Joe are starting to envision a future that goes beyond the confines of Flood Pros USA. “We’re eager to slow down and delve into creative endeavors,” Kristy expresses. “Helping others, particularly children and animals, has always been our driving force. Perhaps a sanctuary, a retreat by the lake, or any initiative where we can contribute meaningfully.”
Joe also anticipates spending more quality time with his family and stepping away from the frontline battles. “I once believed success meant acquiring more—more work, more accolades. But now, it’s about appreciating and sharing the beauty in what you possess. Whatever our next steps are, they’ll be grounded in that belief,” he remarks.
While the Cesteros may step back from daily operations, the legacy of compassion and excellence at Flood Pros USA will persist. “This team has been our pillar through every trial, and they will propel Flood Pros onward,” Kristy asserts confidently. As for Jenni and Wolf? Kristy chuckles, “She’s the spark; he’s the steady one. Together, they remind us of our purpose; to foster a world where resilience and kindness thrive.”
