The world is constantly evolving, causing constant changes in how we used to do things before and how we do them now. There are many examples, one of them being the way we travel, increasingly leaving hotels, apartments, and hostels behind in favor of renting houses from individuals through platforms like Airbnb.
This has its advantages, but as can be seen in the prices of rentals in the most popular tourist areas of the country, it also has its negative aspects. However, this is not the only thing changing when it comes to moving and traveling, as for years now there are more electric cars circulating little by little.
While it is true that the ratio between fuel-powered cars and electric cars is still very different, gradually and with the arrival of more and more options for consumers that adapt to their needs and prices, there are more electric vehicles on the roads.
But the main barrier these cars have today is the lack of electric chargers, although in cities there are more and more parking lots equipped with them, there are still many fewer of them and according to data, 1.2 million chargers would have to be installed each year to meet demand.
This is something that Airbnb has noticed, and according to reports, more and more users are using the filter for accommodations with car charging ports for their vacation rentals. According to data, searches for properties with electric car chargers increased by more than 80% between 2022 and 2023. Additionally, they claim that, on average, accommodations with chargers generate more income and reserved nights than those that do not have them.
For this reason, Airbnb has partnered with the company Chargepoint, dedicated to electric car chargers, to partially finance the installation of these in accommodations registered on their platform. This way, if you are an Airbnb host, you can receive a 25% discount on the charger of your choice and another $100 in installation expenses.
Unfortunately, for now, this measure is only available in the US, and we do not know if the platform will extend this initiative to more countries. Surely, if the adoption of electric cars continues to increase, and the demand for electric chargers in vacation accommodations rises, Airbnb may decide to internationalize this project.
