The airline China Southern Airlines inaugurated this Saturday a route that connects the southeastern Chinese city of Shenzhen with Mexico City, which has become the longest direct international route in the history of Chinese civil aviation.
The route covers a distance of over 14,000 kilometers and will be operated twice a week by an Airbus 350 plane, as reported by the official Xinhua agency.
The total duration of the flight is about 16 hours, significantly reducing the flight time between China and Mexico, the second largest trading partner of the Asian country in Latin America.
The air connection between Mexico City and Shenzhen, located in the well-known “world’s factory,” “will serve the development of economic and commercial demand of China and Latin America and personal exchanges,” explains the state media dispatch.
The route exceeds the 12,878 kilometers covered by the connection between Canton (southeast) and New York (United States), and is among the longest in the world, as reported by EFE.
The return trip to China will make a short stop of about 30 minutes in Tijuana, in the northwest of the North American country.
According to state media, China was, before the pandemic, the Asian country that sent the most tourists to Mexico, with a figure exceeding 100,000 and an average per capita spending of about $2,000.
