Long before iPhones and smartphones, the mobile phone market had a clear reference point, the Nokia 3210. This device marked a before and after in telephony, as it offered a product that had been focused solely on the business sector to an entire generation of young people.
In 1999, Nokia launched this mythical phone, which, as we mentioned, was targeted towards youth for the first time because it came equipped with up to three video games, including the iconic Snake game, you could send SMS with photos, and even customize the ringtone. Automatically, this Nokia 3210 became a bestseller with over 100 million units sold.
This model is very different from the concept of a mobile phone we have today, however, the Finnish company has decided to relaunch this model, although adapted and equipped with various technological advancements that allow it to be a functional phone today.
This is the new Nokia 3210
The new version of this Nokia aims to be a reflection of its predecessor, but somewhat adapted to existing technology, however, it lacks a large screen, multiple cameras, or features like NFC for making payments. The idea was to create a dumb phone instead of a smart one in order to address a serious problem facing our society, addiction to screens, social media, and likes.
And indeed, this is a mobile phone for making calls, sending messages, playing Snake, and a few more functions, but it is not prepared to have TikTok or Instagram. Its most outstanding features are its 2.4-inch screen with QVGA resolution, 64 MB of RAM, and a 2 Mpx camera.
It has 128 GB of storage space and a 1,450 mAh battery, which may seem small at first, but with the phone’s consumption, it can last several days without charging. But this 2024 Nokia 3210 also has modern aspects and is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, 4G connection, and certain apps in the cloud like YouTube Shorts, the weather app, or news app.
Undoubtedly, this is a curious initiative by Nokia to offer a phone with the basic aspects that a mobile phone should have with the added bonus that it helps us detox from screens, which is something that would be good for all of us.
