Nacho Monge, director of the Consumer Electronics and IT Industry division at Samsung has announced the renewed commitment to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Samsung’s TV catalog, with a direct impact on image, sound, and energy savings. After assessing the company’s market share growth in the TV industry, with a 37% share of the overall business, Monge has forecasted particularly optimistic prospects for the rest of the year, due to the upcoming major sports events this summer, including the Eurocup and the Olympics.
In his review of last year, Samsung’s executive has recalled the challenges that the business has faced, mainly caused by the demand adjustment resulting from the high demand for TVs during the pandemic period. Nevertheless, the company has maintained its top ranking in all market segments: in the large format, 65-inch segment, more than six out of every ten TVs sold are from Samsung, while in the super large, 90-inch segment, Samsung holds over 70% of the market. At the same time, 90% of TVs with 8K technology already bear the Samsung signature, now with an 8K resolution scaler eight times more powerful than previous versions. In these models, Samsung has highlighted the contribution of “a more refined control of the thousands of LEDs on the screen, specially adjusted to enhance contrast, and with the incorporation of the first no-glare OLED technology.”
During the presentation of the new TVs, Monge has pointed out that the recent shutdown of SD (standard definition) DTT channels, completed at the end of last February, “has led to a 50% increase in sales for Samsung and a 15% increase in the high-end TV segment”. In this regard, Samsung has strengthened its position this year with the new OLED TV catalog, especially in the high-end range, all equipped with Artificial Intelligence. Regarding this evolution, which will reach stores starting May 15th, Monge has advocated for “a sustainable, secure AI in open environments, so that all manufacturers can work with all devices and developers, but always protected with the triple layer of security offered by the company’s proprietary Knox security platform.”
On the other hand, Samsung sources have highlighted four messages with a long-term focus: “The smartThing platform, which will be able to control device energy consumption, with 30% savings in Eco mode; the commitment to the Solar Cell Remote battery-free remote control, self-rechargeable and made with recycled materials, as sustainable as the components of the TVs and the packaging; the independent Samsung Knox platform, to strengthen the security of the household’s king device; and the offer of Samsung TV Plus, with over one hundred free channels.”
